Chevy Offers $10k in Super Bowl Ad Contest

Automobile brand Chevrolet is offering aspiring filmmakers across the globe the opportunity of getting their "big break." The Route 66 advertisement contest features 50 inspiring Chevy ads from 50 inspiring new directors. These ads/directors hail from 32 countries due to the fact that Chevrolet gets 60 percent of its sales from countries outside the United States across 140 countries. In fact, the American automaker considers tiny Uzbekistan one of its top ten markets. As Joel Ewanick, Global Marketing Chief for GM explains, "Because Chevrolet is sold in many countries, 'crowd-sourcing' content globally is a great way to find creative advertising that works. Using that same concept, we hope to have fans identify their favorite ads for us."1 The winning Indie filmmaker will get one of Chevrolet's four or five spots during the February 5, 2012 Superbowl game. These thirty-second ad slots usually sell for upwards of $3 million.
